Hormonal Acne Skincare Routine

Three easy steps for clear skin and diminishing scars.

For one week a month my hormonal breakouts get out of control, texture gets worse, and inflammation ensues. The issue is not the continuous acne but the aftermath it leaves after the inflammation has decrease.


Below are three over the counter products have helped clear my skin and diminish scarring--which many forget when targeting acne. Stay tuned for a bonus product when nothing else works.



Sarah's Favorites

Origins Zero Oil Face Wash, Kate Sommerville Clarifying Treatment Toner, and Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer.

First Step:

  1. Use Originis Deep Pore Cleanser as directed.

  2. Its gel texture and mint sensation cleanses the skin without leaving residue.

  3. Would recommend twice a day for a week, then reduce to once a day preferably at night.



Second Step:

  1. Apply the Clarifying Toner as directed.

  2. It is alcohol, oil, and fragrance free reducing the chance of dryness and irritation.

  3. Feels like a moisturizing toner calming the skin after the tingling sensation of the cleanser.

  4. Would recommend twice a day for a week, then reduce to once a day preferably at night.


Third Step:

1. Apply the Oil Absorbing Moisturizer as directed to prevent further inflammation

2. One of the biggest causes for acne is sun damage, this 2-in-1 moisturizer dries quickly and treats while protecting the skin with an SPF of 30.

3. Would recommend incorporating it to your during daily routine to treat and prevent acne until scarring fades.



Bonus Product:

1. When nothing else works use Differin Gel as an on-the-spot treatment.

2. It is recommended to be used as a final step, but the active ingredients are so strong that it causes dry and flaky skin texture within 24hrs.

3. Apply your nighttime moisturizer along with Different Gel when experiencing inflamed or under-the-skin acne.
